Today’s three A to Z tunes titles are from the letter MMM
MAC ARTHUR PARK ~ Richard Harris https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRwYQgk05DY
There comes a time in music when something big happens in music. Which I think this 1968/69 gem master work in music from Richard Harris must be one of those. The voice, the way he penned and sung it. Remember it well towards the late 1960s, the press reports, the powerful words and music, the built up. Then you hear the words, and oh my I wonder if the cake was yummy. This was a fave of one of the stations broadcasters, The Wombat. Ian Damon, when he joined Mike and Ray on the relaunch of the radio station in May 2005!.
MAKING PLANS FOR NIGEL ~ XTC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHTrJGeKhYA
This track has quite a lotta ‘pirate radio goss’ remember doing those weekend trips to the Radio Caroline boat in the late 1970s, the guy that was helping me, at the time was called Nigel from here in Essex, who in latter weeks found himself on the Mi Amigo, and also found himself being the last jock of the ship on that January night in 1980, when the ship sunk. Since that tune, which was around the time, was real. The band XTC itself was sort of tagged ‘punk’ but it was good pop ‘punk’ most enjoyable to listen to.
MAGIC MOMENTS ~ Perry Como https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ND3oghPL5M
It could be a crime if a feature about tunes like Magic Moments, was left out of any song list of the ABC of hits. Perry Como’s mass 1958 double sided 78rpm millon seller Catch a falling star on the other side to Perry’s Magic Moments. Think Perry Como was one, if only too, the biggest name in easy listening pop from the 1950s in early 1970‘s with ‘And I love You So’ and others. Not much more to be said.just enjoy!
