I've three questions..........

1. Will the new station make any connections with the various re-issue labels like Ace, Trojan, Cherry Red, Repertoire etc. etc.?

2. Will the new station try to link up with the music press (Record Collector, Mojo, Uncut, Now Dig This) in order to publicize the station?

3. What ideas are in place to recoup the credibility which the station so clearly lost following the Mike Read/Channel 4 debacles?

The Harvey Goldsmith show in 2007 about Big L in which Mike Read rejected everything he said and was made to look a fool.

Ranger: the 'new' Big L (really KBC) is first and foremost interested in the 10pm-6am hours, reaching truckers on the road in the Netherlands and abroad. I haven't heard any of the new shows, but perhaps they will play similar music to TruckRadio in Germany which has/had the same aim of reaching truckers (old playlist - [link])

The daytime Big L output is likely to be as it is now, a broad mix of 1950-1989 music (which probably won't suit your tastes, but why not have a listen and see) and anyway it is ultimately a bonus which might not last forever if Mr Read ever "Gets his act together" and launches his proposed service during the day on 1395.

Re: Question 3. It was a set-up? You think?

More importantly, what about questions 1 and 2?
If this station is serious about music does anyone on this site not think that these actions would be a good idea?

IMO it didn't take much, looking at the programme and the others in the series to realise that. What amazes me is that anyone still takes the HG episode seriously. It was done to make entertaining TV, pure and simple, and looking at the ratings, it seems not to have achieved even that.

As Snowbird says, it's an irrelevence, best forgot.

The main point of the programme was to show that the station was not viable in its then present state.
History has proved it to be correct.

lt was the program that killed it!!
Everything really went down hill seriously after that!
And we lost a damn good DJ in Garry Williams - he was great!
All bcos of HG!!
Forget it we've all slept since then - it's long forgotten about.
Why do you people always drag up ancient history?!!
Leave it - my last words on it.
Not even worth writing about!

I would say it is up to KBC/Big L whether they approach these companies, and they will be on the same footing as any other sponsor/advert...would they want to be involved with our radio station?...especially at this stage.

I wish I knew who I was talking about when I say Big L...I know KBC is Eric...but is Big L Roger, or the unknown people who own Big L Limited?

If Ace Records were involved...and publications like Record Collector Magazine, it would be a good thing...but they don't advertise on other stations, so why would they on this one?

Just thoughts...rather than agreeing or disagreeing with anybody.

I would be happy to hear some genuine old reggae, ska, bluebeat on Big L. Some of the more commercial stuff from artists like Johnny Nash for obvious example would be good as well, but would specific connections with record companies lead to a risk of overdosing?

I still haven't fully recovered from the horrors of The Dubliners being played to death on Caroline 40 years ago.
