Post all related Offshore Radio Discusions here
but remember there is a forum for the almighty MV Galaxy below and the Big L RSL's.

It's a pity neither of them are involved in this new set-up, but I for one will be happy to hear something of interest on 1395 again :)

Big L's hasn't really had a lot of success with using 1395 so maybe its time for something different to see if they can make a go of it. Iwish Seagull the best of luck and the fact that they will be using there radioship the Jenny Baynton will I am sure add a nostalgic offshore radio feel to it.

Yes, good luck to Seagull, and it is great to hear that 1395 is being kept alive (even though I wont be able to hear it myself!).

Regards to all at Big L. I'm sill here even though I do not post much nowadays.

David

Hi David

I wouldn't bet against hearing it in the North West on the skip

It's unfortunate that Seagull starts transmissions on 1395 just as BST begins! 7 pm will be far too early for transmissions that could reach the UK at a later time!

Now if it was September or October it would be different!

Radio Seagull now also on 6150 khz. SW 49m-band; Tx power 6 KWs - Tx location in GER - I don't think its the same location as KBC tx (60 kms away from MUC) - but I can be wrong of course.
Reception in MUC much weaker than KBC of course but listenable
They plan to go 24/7 on SW - lets see.....
(This doesn't affect their MW plans!)

Is this KBC on SW- predicted from 1st April- at least we have a chance then of daytime reception across the UK.

Any idea of the frequency?

KBC SW daily from April 1. on 6095 khz. (not full day - I guess 4 hours)
Seagull SW-tests since yesterday on 6150 khz. at irregular times - you have to try - but they plan to go on SW 24/7 if tests are successful - only 6 KWs
Seagull MW from April 1. on 1395 khz - either 2 or 3 KWs from harbour or 10 KWs from the Waddenzee - I think they'll start with the first (no diesel needed then)

Have just checked the "Big Radio" but may have missed them as it is a bit late. Have been busy all morning with saving a life and working with flashy bangy things. :D

I don't think they had been on on 6150 today yet - at least I couldn't get any signal either yet

I understand a diesel generator is required in harbour for anything above 1kw.

i guess it depends on the supply .. looking at the harbour details they have 63amp 3 phase shoreside supply .. 3kw tx will draw around 6kw for solid state and 9ish for tube tx .. so if they have that supply all will be good .. over 5kw tx though will be on a more powerful supply :)
