Radio Nord revival on mediumwave and shortwave March 8

Postby MikeB » Thu Mar 03, 2011 5:56 pm

We just got the confirmation from The Swedish Post and Telecom Agency (PTS)that our application for MW 1512 kHz and SW 6060 kHz has been approved. On March 8 at 0848 UTC/GMT (0948 CET) we will start by broadcasting the opening of offshore station Radio Nord just as it was aired on this date in 1961. We will also make some short test transmissions on these frequencies before our regular programme starts. Power will be 1 kW on 1512 kHz and 10 kW on 6060kHz. The MW tx is located at Kvarnberget, Vallentuna some 35 km from Stockholm city and the SW tx outside the town of Sala.

If you catch our signal please comment in our blog http://www.radionordrevival.blogspot.com and let us know how well you can hear us in your area. QSL cards will be available later. (Ronny Forslund, ARC/Radio Nord Revival, March 3, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

I guess I will have a chance on 6060 khz SW - 1512 khz. I doubt it - wasn't that the frequency of Radio Vlanderen in assosiation with Wereldomroep NL ?
So why not putting the 10 KWs on 1512 as R. Vlanderen is gone ?
Do you think you can reach Stockholm over a distance of 35 kms with only 1 KW ? in listenable quality ??

1512 kHz was indeed used by R. Vlaanderen International, Alec, but there never was any association with Radio Nederland Wereldomroep. They operated with 60 kW during the daytime and with 600 kW at night. The transmitters (and aerial) are still fully operational. R. Vlaanderen now beams one of its programmes on 927 kHz (300 kW).

I certainly will try and pick up the signal from the "new" Radio Nord on 1512.

Hi "Big" Peter - how nice to see you back - after a long time ...

But..... as you see - I wasn't that wrong

Andy Sennitt comments: The decision to discontinue 1512 kHz will affect expats in neighbouring countries who use this frequency to listen to Radio Vlaanderen Internationaal. RNW listeners will recall that we also used this transmitter for our English service in the late evening for a number of years.

6060 was tested today, UK reports of weak reception on a clear channel though it had presumably gone off when I checked at 1530.

1512 will be tested tonight.

Fair strength with fading on 6060 0835-0910 today, faded out when checked 1120.

Ronny Forslund has just posted this to the blog:

Great to see that reception is good in most places. As for our email you can mail your reception reports to ronny @ ronnybgoode.se A QSL card will be available as soon as we have had the time to design one!

I've driven into the woods 15 kms outside of MUC with my car. at 15:15 CET switched on the car-radio and picked up 6060 khz SW with some Swedish schlager (very similiar to GER schlager  ) - reception pretty poor - but got much better arround 15:30. They played mainly Swedish schlager with some English pop-music in between - I think one was a Conny Francis song - but mainly Swedish stuff.. - I have to confess not too thrilling for me
On my way home (16:00 h) reception was even possible while driving though very SW-like of course - low anorak-quality.
No reception possible in down-town MUC - too much electronic mush arround from all kinds of sources

of course I tried 1512 as well - but no reception arround 16:00h - do you know how far away I am living - I think it must be nearly 2000 kms  - maybe there would be a chance with 50 KWs - maybe ??

Some information on reception reports, happy to send printed cards:
http://radionordrevival.blogspot.com/20 ... l-qsl.html

1512 was low power from a different location than planned apparently. They plan to use 1kw on Saturday.

I am not quite sure if 6060 khz is an ideal frequency - I tried again this afternoon arround 16:30h - and there was a strong Arab-speaking station on. It was still on at 18:00 h (CET)
