Laser 558

Postby Richard Sharpe » Mon Oct 31, 2005 5:54 pm

As Garry has said in another thread Nov 6th marks the 20th anniversary since the Communicator entered Harwich for the first time,

What a great station that was and i think some of the best programming was by Charlie Wolf during Eurosiege,

I hardly knew Laser 558, when it was in its prime I was living on the west coast - Caernarfon - listening to Sunshine Radio 101, another great station that just disappeared. I was back in Colchester at the time Laser's balloon-type aerial decided to go for a wander though. If I remember rightly it landed not far from here!

Also has 'I spy for the DTI', part of the infamous Euroseige period. (Near the bottom of the page)

Marvelous site Bill, I hadn't seen that one before,

Great to see the Caroline and Laser staff together, They were very friendly and used to visit each others stations,

I remember seeing a cartoon once, I think it was in one of the free radio mags, It showed a small boat going between the ships with the headline,

Knock Deep Off licence.

Found it but unfortunately cannot scan it.
It depicts a motor boat with Communicator on the side loaded with alcoholic beverages heading away from the Knock Deep Off Licence.

Also found an interesting copy with a cover picture of Ray on a boat with the Communicator behind (1986)

Thanks Dennis, At one time i used to subscribe to several mags but over the years and a couple of house moves i have misplaced some of them,

I believe that cartoon shows the small boat loaded up with crates of booze.

I have most of the Monitor mags from the latter days of the Mi Amigo (sheds a tear) up to 1990 (the last ones).

Thers some good cartoons in these and a lot of memories.
